Personal Project Part 2

Woo! Uni work for the year is now all done and dusted, all I have to do is get the work printed off.

I designed two sheets of wrapping paper, three greetings cards, and a poster/flyer for a local burlesque cabaret night called 'The Canary Cage'.

Phoenix Snow

The life-drawing with Gemma/Phoenix Snow on Thursday went pretty well, got a couple of drawings done for my second personal project for uni. Have just been colouring them in on Photoshop, though I can't decide whether I prefer this first one with more shade and tone or just flat colours, what are your thoughts?

That one was drawn from a  photo not the life drawing session ^

RSPCA Animation Competition - Uni

Here's an update on how it's going :) Nearly there now, just a few little glitches to sort and to add colour to the bird in the last few frames, may need to add a few more drawings as well actually for where it jumps out of the birdhouse...let me know what you think!

RSPCA Animation Competition - Uni

Some frames from my RSPCA animation (which isn't an animation yet, so, some sparrow drawings...)

Testing out scanning the images with different coloured backgrounds

A group shot of 12 of the frames

Update -

Okay, just tried to test out the first bunch of frames on Flash to see if it actually worked at all, here is the result :)

The final animation is going to be cleaner so the numbers of the frames will obviously not be there, but it's not looking too bad for my first attempt at hand-drawn animation :)

Just some updates....

First project at university went down well, it was about British 'firsts', this was my piece, it seemed to go down well :)

Currently working on the first part of my personal project, for which I am entering an RSPCA/Simon's Cat competition that I came across over the summer but thought it was too late to enter as the closing date on the site said earlier September, then found out when back at uni that it had a different date on another part of the site (next year) and that they'd made a mistake on the page I'd seen, bah! But anyway, doing it now :) Been mostly drawing birdhouses and lots of sparrows...

Outside of uni I've been trying to make some connections, meeting with a woman who is part of the council from where I live next week who organises events and such in the local park about the possibility on working on some illustrations for promotional materials.
Also been chatting to a local newbie burlesque performer who is more than happy to help with my next project for uni which is based around burlesque so we're going to meet up some time that we're both free and she'll pose for me to do some life-drawing.

Have been keeping busy :) Sorry for not updating the blog much, I forget about it sometimes 'cause I have the Facebook page now (

Some primary source drawings from earlier in the year

Was just looking through my year 2 university work, thought I'd share some drawing from life...

Alan on his Macbook

Wollaton Hall and deer park, Nottingham, in continuous line

Alan drawing me drawing him

Man asleep on the train

Couldn't take anymore sketchbook pics, battery was flashing and I wanted there to be enough power for me to connect it to the comp and upload them.

Dr Sketchy

I went to my first Dr Sketchy on Sunday, it was great! For those who aren't familiar it's an art class with a difference, featuring burlesque performers posing to me drawn and also doing some routines. Definitely want to get to the next one.
Here are some of my drawings:

and this was a picture I re-drew at home and coloured in digitally

I've been busy making necklaces the past few days to try sell and earn a few pennies, hopefully.
Here are some examples, they've all been hand-made and hand-drawn so are completely one of a kind.

To see larger pictures go here
All necklaces are made of thick hard plastic, I think it's about 4mm thick.
If you are interested in any drop me an e-mail at :)
I can also draw something specifically for you if you have something in mind.

Tea Tea Tea!

Just a sketchy quick doodle of my cup of tea for a university project entitled 'Me Me Me', ahh I do love tea...

And here is an (unfinished I think) self portrait for the same project...

If you're on Facebook, do follow my page on there, I update it more frequently :)

Uni Summer Project - Illustration 3

Have been full of cold for a while so hadn't got round to finishing this till today, and after drawing Boris I feel like I didn't put enough effort in on the 'swooners', but here it is, may have been better if I wasn't still feeling pretty bleh!

This was to illustrate an article from The Daily Mail entitled 'Why DO classy women keep falling for Mayor Boris the bumbling cad?'

Uni illustration - Summer Project - 3

29th July

Just started planning 3rd illustration, here's a sketchy mock up of what I'm thinking of, the article was from the Daily Mail and was entitled
'Why DO classy women keep falling for Mayor Boris the bumbling cad?'

Update, 4th August, did another sketch, but unfortunately did Boris way too big haha, also, got carried away with detail in parts, like the eyes, want him to be more cartoony caricaturey really, hmm...

Vintage at Goodwood

I'm rather excited.  Entered a competition that was run by the people behind a new festival starting this year  down in Chichester called Vintage at Goodwood for artworks to be displayed on the site and I'm one of the finalists so have to send my work in to be hung up woo! Also won a weekend pass worth £135 and admission to the awards on the Friday where I stand a chance of winning further stuff.  Also, Stella Vine is chairing so should hopefully get to meet her. Been speaking to her a bit over the past couple of days and she'd noticed my entries in the competition and said she's going to be camping too and has admission to the awards so it'll be great to say Hi after I didn't get to meet her at the private view a few years back at Modern Art Oxford for her first solo show (it was still amazing to get to see her work in person). But yeah, really looking forward to it, the festival itself sounds fab and unique and interesting too =)

Uni Summer Project - Illustration 2

This was for an article/advertisement from a Morrisons store magazine on cream teas.
